A New Term To Me

This is a new one for me, and I thought you might find it interesting too. They're called "free-Range" kids. VERY interesting.

A lot of parents are doing that now. I think smaller kids need boundaries, though.

As is most things, there has to be a balance. My sister-in-law lets her little ones watch rated "R" movies and use curse words at their leisure. I was raised on the other extreme, that everything was evil and bad.

I don't agree with either. Balance. This is the very reason I started my review blog. I explain a little about this sort of balance in the About Us page (too long to post here: booksforyouth.com/about .)

Excellent posts. I agree with you both.

Ahhhh, that WAS interesting. Occasionally, my sons will fall off their bikes or out of a tree, and I think "aaargh, I'm a terrible parent!" But the rest of the time I am so happy with the joy, self-sufficiency and strength I see in them. When letting your kids go free-range, I would advise having family dinners and bedtime stories and snuggles DAILY, to reconnect, communicate, and find out what's up in their lives. Don't just assume that everything's okay! When they do get into hot water, they will need a parent to cheer them on, advise them, and administer hugs and kisses at the end of the day.
