Coca Cola 600
This weekend, the Coca Cola 600 will be run at Charlotte Motor Speedway after the Indianapolis 500. I grew up in Indiana, and went to the 500 several years. When Jeff Gordon entered NASCAR, I made the switch.
Recently I had the opportunity to travel to Concord, NC, for an event with Comfort Publishing at Great Wolf Lodge. As it happens, Hendrick Motorsports is about 1 mile from the lodge. My wife and I also went over to the speedway.
So I'll be watching the race with added interest this weekend. And the race-used lug nuts from Jeff's car will be on display.
Have a great Memorial Day weekend everyone!

Kids Books for Summer Reading
This blog reached # 1 on Google earlier this week!
Kids report that reading a Max Elliot Anderson book is, “…like being in a scary or exciting movie.” And it’s good scary, not dark.
This summer, you will probably be looking for books to keep your kids reading while they’re out of school. It’s no small task to pull them away from the TV, video games, smart phone, or computer.
My books are written with boys in mind, first, but girls love reading them just as much, or more.
Those films included humor, excitement, danger, suspense, action, adventure, mystery, and so much more. My books follow the exact same pattern.
If you’re looking for books that will capture the attention of your child, and hold them to the end, with many cliffhanger chapter endings that nearly force the reader to continue, you might give my books a try.
The Sam Cooper Adventure Series.
Book # 1, Lost Island Smugglers, is available now. Also on Kindle.
Newspaper Caper will be out later this summer. Watch for it.
When the Lights Go Out is a tribute to what happened on 9/11 and is to be released on August 1, in time for the 10th anniversary of 9/11 this year. A special blog has been started for this important new kids book http://max-whenlightsgoout.blogspot.com/
Several other titles are in the pipeline. You can return to this blog for information or write mander8813@aol.com and ask to be placed on our mailing list.
Have a great summer reading experience!

I may have just the books you’re looking for. That’s because most of my life has been devoted to the production of films, television commercials, and video programs. Now, much of that same visual excitement finds its way onto the pages of my action, adventure, and mystery books written for readers 8 and up.

As your young reader is ready to go back to school, North Woods Poachers will be released on September 1.
Book # 3 in the Sam Cooper Adventure Series, River Rampage, is expected to release before Christmas. Watch for it.

Max Elliot Anderson at Great Wolf Lodge
It’s called the Great Wolf Lodge, but great doesn’t begin to cover this beautiful resort in Concord, NC.
Driving into the Great Wolf Lodge is an experience in itself.
Of course, the theme of the lodge is wolves as you can see in these pictures.
The attached water park really drew in the kids.
Learn more about this resort chain at http://www.greatwolf.com/
I have not been paid to endorse or promote Great Wolf Lodge. These are simply my impressions from our stay there.
Driving into the Great Wolf Lodge is an experience in itself.
Everything is well maintained, the food is great, and the rooms are spectacular.
We were there as a part of Homeschool Days. I understand the Great Wolf Lodges in other parts of the country will be offering special rates for homeschool families in the future. If there’s a lodge in your area, be sure to check on that. My wife, Claudia, and I were joined at the lodge by fellow author Mark Miller, and members of Comfort Publishing.
Over the course of 5 days, I made several presentations to homeschool families about my books,
Barney and the Runaway, Newspaper Caper, North Woods Poachers, and When the Lights Go Out.

Books...Boys...and NASCAR
My wife Claudia and I just spent a week with Comfort Publishing at a homeschool event in Concord, NC. I'll blog more specifically about that later.
The Charlotte Motor Speedway is about 1 mile from the front door of the resort where we stayed. Naturally I had to drive over there to see the track. For anyone who knows me, what follows will make perfect sense. That's because I'm a NASCAR fan. And not just a fan of the sport, I've followed Jeff Gordon, specifically, since he entered the Cup Series.
Jeff lives in the Charlotte area. He drives for Hendrick Motorsports which is headquartered in Concord. My wife and I drove to the Hendrick complex to tour the garages for Jimmy Johnson (#48), Dale Earnhard Jr. (#88), Mark Martin #5), and, of course, Jeff Gordon (#24).
They were preparing Jeff's car for Darlington on the day we stopped in.
Shirley, the receptionist in Jeff and Mark's garage, turned out to be from the same area in Northern Illinois where we live. We had a nice conversation with her.
Here are a couple of pictures from the two garages.
After touring the two garages, we went over to the Hendrick Museum. Again, there were lots of cars along with trophies, helmets, race uniforms and more.
In all, we had a great time. And the best part is that the garages and museum are free! This is one of the classiest places you will ever see. Everything is first class and done well.
Too bad the Hendrick cars didn't do better at Darlington. Maybe next time.
